Nature[s]

When we talk about the weather or about climate change, or when we consider our habits or desires, we often invoke nature. Sometimes we see nature as laying outside humanity, a threat to our safety or, inversely, something that needs our care and protection. In other times we understand ourselves as part of nature, similar to all other living beings and, accordingly, subject to raw instincts and impulses. This year’s theme invited the students to dive into one of the oldest debates in history – nature or nurture? – and consider from a designerly perspective the different kinds of nature that surround us, work through us, and make us who we are.
