The final design is an interactive pillow-shaped device that facilitates the exchange of positive touch between mothers and their daughters who are separated by a distance. The product is designed to be used during phone conversations, especially when the daughter experiences feelings of distress. Final evaluations with the prototype showed that interacting with the product feels like a hug and makes the users feel more at ease and comfortable during emotional phone conversations.
My design goal is to create meaningful mediated social touch between mothers and their daughters, specifically when the daughter experiences feelings of distress.
The interaction(s) with my product should feel like being cosy in between your bedsheets during a thunderstorm. It should feel warm, safe, familiar and instinctive.
