Design Goal and Interaction vision
The design goal: I want people that are approached by housing corporations to participate in a renovation process to feel inspired by the possible new situation.
The interaction vision: The interaction is described as personal and enriching, like when a father teaches his son how to fish.
Creating sustainable participation
My final design is a tool where four tenants are guided through a process where they are helped to express their interests in the start-up of a renovation process. In different steps, the tenants are invited to divide 10 coins over different categories and rooms. While they are also able to observe what other tenants find important. First tenants divide 10 coins over four categories, ‘exterior’, ‘interior’, ‘comfort’ and ‘energy use’.
Then one by one, these categories are introduced on the middle unit. The coins for ‘energy use’ are moved to the base level, while the tenants are asked to divide the remaining categories each over four different rooms in their house; living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.
