Smart Steering Wheel

The Smart Steering Wheel Cover is an in-vehicle system to enhance safety and efficiency in driving. The system provides real-time feedback on a driver’s behavior, triggered by the accelerometer sensor in the driver’s smartphone.  and provides a safer interface for accessing a limited number of mobiles phone functions, directly from the steering wheel.

A strip of green LED lights in the steering wheel cover provides positive feedback about good driving behavior in a playful way: the safer and more energy efficient one drives, the more the steering wheel cover lights up, and the more the closed the circle of lights will be. In case of inefficient driving the lights will fade out and subtle vibrations provide intuitive feedback about driving too aggressively.

Smart controls for playing music and for answering the phone are embedded in the steering wheel cover, to stimulate more safe use of a limited number of smartphone functions. The cover is customized for users and does fit the steering wheels of most cars. The usage of The Smart Steering Wheel Cover not only benefits the safety and fuel efficiency of driving, but also contributes to the environment.
