IO3045 Video for Designers
I am responsible for the Bachelor elective IO3045 “Video for Designers”, in which students are trained to understand, apply and experience the potential of video in different stages in their design process. The course is structured around three assignments, each addressing a different stage in the design process, a different design perspective and a different designer’ role.
Assignment 1: Video for Design Etnography
Video offers design ethnographers a way to capture the richness and detail of existing contexts of use. The goal of this assignment was to conduct a semi-structured interview of about 30-60 minutes with someone about their passion, and to subsequently capture the essence of this interview in a video persona of about 4 minutes.

Assignment 2: Video for Design Conceptualisation
Video is a powerful medium to articulate feelings and emotions, and, more importantly in a design context, to show and reveal the interactions that evoke these experiences. The goal of this assignment was to create a movie of about 60 to 90 seconds that expresses a specific emotional interaction.

Assignment 3: Video for Design Fiction
Design Fiction is about envisioning, exploring and explaining possible future scenarios (of use) of emerging technologies and products. The goal of this assignment was to create a design fiction of about 4 minutes, that would show different perspectives or implications, both good and bad, of an envisioned product, service or technology.
