By Thomas Visser – August 2009The SnowGlobe prototype creates an awareness between two people of their presence and activity in the living room. Two persons, living remote from each other, will have a SnowGlobe in their living room. The amount of light and ‘snow’ in the globe shows the amount of movement in the other living room, live. Also, a user can shake the SnowGlobe, to make the globe in the other living room snow and shine brightly for a brief period.
This design was tested in the homes of six young elderly users (60-65) and a close relative. Results will be published soon…
KeyPing Touch @ Intel Design Expo
By Mariska Rooth, Tristan Weevers and Robert Leufkens – September 2009The ‘KeyPing Touch’-team from the Interactive Technology Design (ITD) course had the opportunity to present their work at the Intel Design Expo in California. Their work has evolved from the ITD course, and after some additional testing and prototyping they took it to the US. A short explanation (in Dutch) can be found in the movie below. For additional info, check their KeyPing Blog.
Interactive Technology Design course
By 3 groups of students – July 2009Three groups of TU Delft Master students have spent some months on designing interpersonal awareness devices and systems. The design brief was:
Design an interactive product that improves the feelings of social connectedness of elderly with their family. By making the elderly aware of what’s going on in the lives of their relatives (and vice versa), they can feel more connected, more secure, and eventually feel more happy. You will design a system that uses ‘context aware technology’ to increase the awareness between the people, regarding their activities, location or availability.
The results of these activities are explained in the movies below…
ScatteredConnected: awareness of your social network
By Hester Anderiesen – April 2009This project was done by Hester Anderiesen, as a graduation project. Hester designed a social network awareness system called ScatteredConnected. The system was involved having photoframes with pictures of your friends and relatives on the wall. The more activity and movement there is in the living room of a particular person, the brighter his or her photoframe will shine. Knowing who is there gave the users a feeling of safety and security, when they tried it out in their homes.
