The underlying goal of this project is to open a debate on the different interpretations of sustainability by experiencing a negotiation between the objects. What if objects could make you more aware of your own energy and water consumption patterns in a provocative way?
Why?
In a hotel room, guests might want to indulge themselves in all the luxurious water- and energy-consuming practices, while normally they care about climate crises and sustainability. But, what if we could merge this sustainable behaviour in a luxurious hotel room?
Sustainability is not a black-or-white matter
Additionally, sustainability is perceived as a complex topic, full of nuances and interpretations. If sustainability can be perceived in different ways, what would it look like if the individual actors in this problem, the consuming objects, could share their views on sustainability during a stay in a luxurious hotel room? How would the objects intervene if they want to share their opinion?
Our concept:
Through AI, it is animated how the objects in the room express their own opinion on sustainability. They will intervene if they are worried energy or water consumption is increasing to a certain point. The objects will then start their Summit of the Objects, meaning they will discuss the behaviour, ask the hotel guest for advice, and make decisions on what measures to take.
Guests will be taken through the check-in process, after which they are introduced to the objects in the room. Then, they will be presented with scenarios that the objects might find undesirable, and the objects will intervene in their own way.
How?
In our design, the objects express their thoughts and emotions through their language. The language of the objects is intrinsically related to the resource they consume and their affordances (e.g. light for the objects that consume electricity). The objects have different personalities and relationships with each other. Depending on the personalities, the objects have different ways of expressing themselves to contribute to more dynamism. Last, the objects have their intentions toward sustainability. They follow a code of conduct determined in the energy-saving algorithm to ensure conscious and rational energy usage.
Make sure it includes your video next to whatever you want to show here (such as your poster, pictures of your prototype, and for example photographs from the exhibition you made on Wednesday).
When including your video upload it on another website, e.g. youtube, and embed the link on this page using the ?embed video? function. Also, add a link to your video to the property above this page called ?Link to video?.
