Ford Transfer Ecosystem
| Abstract | Ford vans are not just a means for transportation but also an active aid to the jobs that handymen- and women are performing. However, the advantages are currently confined to the van itself by being a closed environment that can be entered and left. We introduce the Ford Transfer ecosystem. This is a revolutionary open system that extends to both in - and outside the van. The system, running on transfer UI, uses a dockable device that acts as the key of any van. The ecosystem is context-aware and will appeal to a wide range of handymen and -women because it is customizable, it supports multiple devices and allows for seamless switching between Ford vehicles while maintaining maximum efficiency. |

Whereas the old system has separated environments that are confined to distinct cars, the new system allows for a personal device to dock with many cars; creating seamless connectivity between different vehicles. This allows for smooth synchronisation of your digital life between your own car, your company's car, or any car. Docking your device offers an individual experience in every vehicle that you use.
Universal docking
The ecosystem is supported by multiple devices that can be docked both in the dashboard or in the middle console. Both positions support wireless charging, so you do not have to worry about running out of juice. When docked, the electrically powered car will start transfer UI allowing you to drive away.
Seamless connectivity
All cars that are part of the Ford Transfer Ecosystem program can be accessed with your own personal tablet or smartphone. Giving you access to many cars with a single device.
Personalized experience
Your device builds an understanding of the preferences that define your perfect commute. This is used to automatically adapt every car that you enter not just for you, but also for your wife, friends, and family.

Beyond 2030
If we may believe future predictions, transport will transition into a system build upon the Transport-as-a-Service (TaaS) paradigm. The ecosystem we proposed in this project reflects the possibilities that come with this paradigm shift. In this section, we will elaborate on the advantages that come with using our system.
Shared mobility
When TaaS becomes important in the future our ecosystem is a possible way of managing the experiences between individual commutes in different cars. While our case specifically mentions the handymen and -women as our target group, the system is universal for everyone in need of transport. When all people eligible to drive have access to cars with their personal device this approach is promising because it allows for individually tailored experiences while using different vehicles.
Fleet renewal
Big delivery companies like DHL and PostNL have fleets of vans and cars at their disposal for transport. Renewing vehicles to keep the fleet up-to-date is with our system is easier. Because separating telematics from the vehicles should allow for cheaper refreshments of vehicles that are part of the fleet. The universal docking system allows for separated updates of both the vehicles and telematics.
Software updates
The purpose of Transfer UI is to have a personalized environment that appeals to a wider audience. Every handyman and woman is different and therefore active development is on the UI is needed. Developments can be pushed over the air to the supported devices, allowing for a dynamic system that acts as an intermediate between the owner and the vehicle.
Hardware updates
The industry for personal devices is continuously changing. Every year tablets and smartphones will continue to develop with the rising technological possibilities to the demands of society. The Ford transfer ecosystem is fortunate in that it can benefit from this. Where other vehicles are stuck with outdated, fixed-to-the-car hardware, Ford will offer the possibility to conveniently adapt to newer hardware.
