Little Bio (Elif Özcan Vieira)

I’m an assistent professor at the section of Design Aesthetics (IDE / TU Delft). My interests include product sounds and product semantics. I obtained my PhD degree (cum laude) in 2008 on the topic of product sounds (check my thesis: Product Sounds: Fundamentals and Application).

I studied industrial design in Middle East Technical University in Ankara. I worked as a sound designer for a popular radio station (Radyo ODTU) in Ankara, Turkey and as an interaction designer for Novo Design Group in Lisbon (enova design), Portugal. In 2003, my academic career started with my PhD study on product sounds in Delft, the Netherlands.

At TU Delft, I continue my research on mental and sensory processes (especially auditory and visual) that underlie product experience. My other research interests are developing methods and tools to optimize design processes for product sounds. When I have free time from my research activities, I like to take photos, jog, and play tennis. I speak Turkish, English, and Portuguese. I am married to a lovely Portuguese man and with joint effort we managed to create a cute little daughter.
