Over the years I’ve been involved in various courses and graduation projects, originally as student assistant, nowadays as teacher.

Current educational activities

Courses

  • Cognitive Ergonomics for Complex Systems (2014 – now) Lecturer and coach.
  • Interactive Audio Design (2012 – now) Lecturer, coach, programming of the course synthesizer.
  • Embodied Audio Design (2012 – now) Lecturer, coach, programming of the course synthesizer.
  • Research & Design (2011 – now) Research coach.
  • Former educational activities

    Courses

  • Product Sound Design (2011-2012) Lecturer and coach. This course was split in two separate courses: Interactive Audio Design and Embodied Audio Design.
  • DfI Research Methodology (2013) Coach
  • Context and Conceptualization (2011-2014) Essay reviewer
  • Bachelor Finals Project (2011-2012) Research Coach
  • Interactive Technology Design (2008-2009) Teaching students to make interactive prototypes (e.g., sensors, actuators, MaxMSP, Arduino)
  • Electronics & Interaction (2009) Designing, building and programming the electronics practical.
  • Product in werking (2008) Teaching students how to use electronics measurement devices (e.g., multimeters)
  • Modelleren (2007-2008) Programming LabView examples for the practical.
  • Product in beweging (2007-2008) Programming an automatic measuring system in LabView and assisting the practical.
  • Graduation projects

  • Designing the user experience for the future keyboard (TĂș Ngo, 2012) Graduation mentor.
  • Audigator – Designing an auditory scale model for blind people (Xiaowei Wang, 2012) Graduation mentor in cooperation with Stichting Geluid in Zicht.
  • Beaded: Emotion toolkit to improve the quality of life of cancer patients (Marloes de Wit, 2010) Designing and programming Beaded’s RGB color control and user interface in MaxMSP.
  • Design of a product that facilitates weight management by means of mindful eating (Esther Toet, 2010) Designing and programming the scale’s ’embedded software’ in MaxMSP.
  • Laparoscope training tool for surgeons (Eva Biemans, 2009) Designing and programming the target detection software in Arduino for the training environment.
  • Kita – Toy for ADHD children (Juan Jimenez, 2008) Facilitating rapid interactive prototyping with MaxMSP and Phidgets. Designing the flowchart for the embedded software of the final prototype.
  • Other projects

  • Laparoscope training tool (2011) This project was done for Karl Storz (Germany) and continued on the work of Eva Biemans’ graduation project.
  • Experiment Gillette shaving sounds (2008, 2009) Designing and programming the experiment software in MaxMSP. Conducting the experiment at the research plant in Reading, UK. Writing the final report.
  • Frits Philips Kunstprijs contest at museum “Kunstlicht in de kunst” (2008) Stella and Stefan designed the Love Hate Punch, a boxing bag that would locally flash when hit, and with continuous hitting would change its background color. It won the first price! I programmed the background color transitions in Arduino.
  • PhD project on human powered products (2008) Programming an experiment setup in LabView.
