Goal
Taking pictures before having plastic surgery on the face can be a traumatizing experience. In order to distract the patient from these negative emotions, “Lach naar het vogeltje” was developed. The patient engages with the surroundings. This enables the doctors to take pictures of the face without any hassle.
Explanation of concept
- A calming voice takes the patient to the jungle. It asks the patient to search for certain animals on the screen.
- The patients will turn their heads while searching for the animals. This allows the doctor to take pictures of the face with different poses.
- Jungle pictures and sounds bring the patient in an engaging experience.
Used technologies
VoiceFlow, Speaker, Powerpoint, screen projector/big tv, wizard of Ozzed the voice input

Findings from testing
- Now the head movements were too subtle. Therefore the screen should be bigger or sphered to ensure a wider range of the movement of the head. This results in better pictures.
- Further research should tell if it is experienced better when the patient is alone in the room while experiencing the picture-taking process.
- The voice input does not listen closely to the patient yet. To ensure that the patient's experience is not disrupted by mistakes of the AI, it should be trained properly.
- In this prototype, we did not implement the camera that takes pictures of the face. In the real concept, this camera may not be very obvious. This could influence the experience.
- Maybe the jungle theme does not work for everybody. By making it interchangeable, it could fit a wider range of people.
