AI KIN: Human Technology Interaction
The past few weeks we have been exploring the topic of AI kin: The relationships you have with AI. This topic created a lot of questions, we will guide you through those questions.
Concept
Can an AI comfort you by recognizing your emotional state and offering a fitting solution?
Prototype
- Teachable Machine with emotions dataset
- P5 programmed visually comforting images
Difficulties
- TeachableMachine was not able to capture the emotions accurately
Findings
- Not only for TeachableMachine but also for humans emotions can be hard to read. Someone?s neutral face can look quite sad for instance.

Concept
AI becomes your conversation partner. Can you have a well-balanced conversation?
Prototype
- Voiceflow chatbot
- Bluetooth speaker
- Scale displaying the ?information balance?
Difficulties
- Wizard of Ozzed Voiceflow recognition
- Wizard of Ozzed the right balance on the scale
Findings
- Shocked by random and deep questions
- Hesitant to ask questions back to the AI
- Seeing the AI as an assistant rather than a conversation partner
- A slightly new perspective after the conversation.

Would you trust an AI fortune teller?
Prototype
- Survey ?collecting? personal information
- Slider connected to color LED to choose the current mood

Difficulties
- Capturing clothing color did not work, therefore we wizard of Ozzed everything!
Findings
- Participants were willing to give up all their data in this context
- Did not believe the prediction, setup, and data collection was believable
- It depends on the context if they believe an AI
