????????????? Introduction

In the world of today, sustainability is a big factor. A lot of companies try to do their best in contributing to a sustainable workflow, CitizenM is one of them.

CitizenM is a hotel chain with hotels in big cities all around the world and thus guests from all around the world. CitizenM offers practical luxury stays and promotes the short yet welcoming stay. We want to help CitizenM create more awareness and education around how their guests can contribute to a greener tomorrow. There is a lot that humans can do, that they simply don?t know about. In order to complete this mission, we focus on two directions:

A. Decreasing the energy consumption of guests, especially when they are not using the hotel room.

B. Increasing the recycling of waste streams.

Concept 1: Smart light control

As stated before, one of our focus points is reducing energy consumption in the hotel room. The target group is hotel guests that have a short stay at the CitizenM and don?t spend a lot of time in their rooms.

This concept identifies when the guests is going to bed or leaving their room, to turn off the lights when they are not there anymore. And to dim the lights if they want the room to be in ?night mode?. The AI notices when it?s the right time to dim the lights and seds a notification to your device.

Concept 2: interactive, educative recycling bin

This concept deals with our second focus point: increasing recycling. Guests often bring trash with them into the hotel, from their trip to the hotel or from previous days. They often don?t recycle this trash and throw it away in the hotel room. This concept stimulates the user to throw their trash in the right recycle bin, before entering the hotel room. The trash bin will interact with the user and educate them about where they should throw their trash away and why this is important.

Concept 3: musical trash bin

The third concept also tackles the recycling issue, only in a different way. In order to stimulate guests in recycling more, we chose to create a fun interaction through a musical trash bin outside of the hotels. People will generate a curious feeling about what this bin can do and approach it. The bin can detect their trash through sound and give them a musical surprise in return for recycling them in the right bin. Apart from the sustainable advantages, this will also create a positive sustainable image for CitizenM.
