Our aim last weeks was to explore different stages of the sustainable futuristic kitchen experience by physical prototyping and testing. In what different ways can the future of the sustainable kitchen look like? In our first week we focused on waste management with our concept Trashures: what if we see our food waste as new resources. The second week we created the concept Smilejection, where we took a futuristic approach to the consumption of food. The last week was about preparation, GreenInHouse is a self-sustaining green house robot which helps you grow food and cook with your own grown food. We see the future kitchen as an ongoing system: it does not start with preparation and ends with waste, but waste can be used again for preparation and consumption. All processes regarding the kitchen and eating are linked to each other.
In this exhibition we give you the experience of what that could be like in 2030.
To see all the concepts and the AI voices that were used during testing you can click on this link.
Preparation - a vertical farming robot that makes every food you want and knows what you need or can use!
Imagine being at home and you are thinking about what to eat for dinner. You are still not sure what you would like to cook. You enter the kitchen and your self-sustaining greenhouse has its lights on because it is in a dark place. The sun begins to shine and GreenInHouse is moving to the sunny place in your kitchen while turning of its lights, asking you to come to follow. You follow your GreenInHouse and it tells you: 'The spring onions are ready to harvest! You can make great springrolls with them. Should I send the recipe and ingredients to your phone?' You would like to eat springrolls! And say yes to your GreenInHouse. It sends you the recipe to your phone, you cut some onions and go to the supermarket to get the other groceries. At home GreenInHouse guides you during cooking.
Consumption - create a smile by injecting your needed nutritions adding the perfect ?eating? smell
You are coming home from a long day and Smilejection invites you to sit down in your chair and charge you up. It scans you, tells you what nutrients you are lacking and asks if you would like to gain these. You go sit in the comfortable chair and relax. Smilejection notioned that you would fancy a manderine and Smilejection is absolutely right! You would like the full eating experience: smell, sound and sight. It charges you up with nutrients without you even feeling it. Next to this a nice smell of mandarines surrounds you, you hear the peeling of a manderine and a projection of peeling a manderine is showed to you. After this you feel recharged and decided to take some more rest in this chair.
Waste management - don't throw away your trashures!
After eating your dinner you of course have to clean up after yourself. You go to the trashcan to see how you can recycle your trash. The concept recognizes the pieces of trash and tells you where you can dispose it. The AI voice will also propose different re-use options to the user to use trash in a new and different way. Consumers are able to use it in other recipes or as compost to harvest new foods. You now dispose your trash and you had a fulfilling experience with food this evening.
