Consolidated Delivery

What is consolidated delivery

The second reference on the Cambridge English Dictionary(1) defines consolidate as ?to combine several things (?) so that they become more effective?. Consolidated Delivery then, means to gather packages and deliver them all on a single trip rather than make several trips only with a single package.

This way of shipping originates in freights and truck deliveries to make them more efficient when the cargo that had to be shipped was not enough to fill a pallet or a truck, in what is called a combination of less-than-truckload or LTL shipments.

Currently and to reduce the amount of shipment to single address, some cities like London are starting to experiment with this method with small businesses. The effects for now are an increase in efficiency and a decrease in rates and traffic, meaning less pollution and safer environments. It is safe to assume that this trend will transition to eventually reach regular consumers.
