We regard design as primarily aimed at improving the user experience as a whole, and technology and research as valuable means to that end. Our work is embedded in the TUD-IDE portfolio in the research programme ‘User Experience’ (UX), with a strong connection to the applied theme ‘sustainable living/working’.
We deal with experience in two senses: the user’s subjective appreciation of a product (or service, or situation, …) as in ‘product experience’ and ‘emotional design’. And the user’s first-hand knowledge of his own life situation (as in contextmapping).
The UX programme has four themes:
- sensory and cognitive fluency
- faces of user experience: aesthetics, meaning, and emotion
- context’s around us(e): culture, situation, and sociability
- usage, comfort, and safety
