Hello. I am Nazli, a PhD student working at StudioLab. My main research interest is the metaphor usage in the product design field, and I work on how designers generate product metaphors. If you’d like to have a quick look at what a product metaphor is, here is my blog with numerous examples: http://productmetaphors.tumblr.com/

My background is in industrial design, and I was graduated from Middle East Technical University (Turkey). During my studies, I was fascinated by the richness of the sensorial and emotional experiences that the products are able to convey to users. I wanted to work further on this subject in depth, and luckily became a member of the Design Aesthetics section in 2009 with a PhD topic that can lead to very rich user experiences. Currently, I’m a full-time researcher who also contributes to some courses in our faculty.

Things that I like:

traveling, cats, smell of freshly baked cookies, unicorns, flash-based games, thoughtful people, verbal puns, pop culture, minimalism

Things that I don’t like:

cycling (a great handicap when living in the Netherlands), eggs, mice, kitsch designs, coffee, waking up when it’s still dark

Things that I can:

chatting, traveling lightly, diving headfirst, eating a whole apple pie, losing track of time

Things that I can’t:

acting, walking properly with heels, making complex statistical analyses, parallel parking
