The Interface between Design and Service Research
The presentation will focus on the importance of materiality for the design of product-service systems. I will draw on post-phenomenological research in the area of philosophy of technology, as a way to describe human experiences of material interfaces, in especial, technologically-enabled ones such as those found in Philips DirectLife. Implications for service design will also be discussed.
Fernando Secomandi’s research has been published in leading design periodicals, including Design Issues, and presented at conferences and design schools in Brazil, Finland, The Netherlands, North America, and United Kingdom. Fernando holds a PhD degree cum laude from the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) and is currently Adjunct Professor of Product Design at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Brazil). He will soon take up a position at Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial, in Rio de Janeiro, where he had his undergraduate education in industrial design.
