StudioLabTalk: Design for Happiness
By Dr. Pieter Desmet – StudioLab member
Can we understand how products evoke emotions? Can we measure these emotions? And, most importantly, can we design products that evoke positive emotions? These questions have driven my research for the last ten years. The main aim has been to develop tools and techniques that support designers in emotion-driven design efforts. Last year, I had the extraordinary experience to be awarded a VIDI grant, and to land a corporate sponsorship for establishing the ‘Delft Institute of Positive Design’ (DIOPD), an initiative to stimulate scientific research for the development of knowledge that supports designers in their attempts to design for human flourishing. The DIOPD will host a PhD and a Postdoc researcher, who will reside in the new Studio Dreams. In this talk I will first present the plans for the VIDI research, and then introduce the background, goals, and initial activities of the DIOPD.
This LabTalk will be held in StudioSay, October 12th, at 16:00.
