IDE Emotional Design involved in new format NOS ‘Journaal’

Two weeks ago, the NOS launched a new format set for their flagship news show – the Eight ‘O Clock News. The inspiration for these changes came partly from a vision that Steven Fokkinga and Pieter Desmet, created, and which Steven presented in 2011 to the chief editors of the NOS.

Last week, the NOS (the Dutch Broadcast Foundation) launched a new format and set for their flagship news show – the Eight ‘O Clock News. The inspiration for these changes came partly from a vision on the news that Steven Fokkinga and Pieter Desmet created, which Steven presented in June 2011 to the chief editors of the NOS.
According to Giselle van Cann, Deputy Editor of the NOS news: “In this first session, Steven Fokkinga presented us with a number of images that lingered. Steven presented metaphors about how the NOS news should be a ‘guide’ to the viewer, instead of a teacher. He showed how the news could assume a ‘fitting attitude’, and less of an authoritarian attitude. Lastly, he elaborated how news items can get a more central place in the program. Through his words and images Steven has provided direction and focus to our thinking about the identity of the Eight O’ Clock News. And that is, in our opinion, clearly visible in the end result.”

The Eight O’ Clock news can be watched daily on Nederland 2 at 20:00.
